Top 5 Home Improvement Trends for 2015
Ready or not, the new year has arrived and that means out with the old and in with the new! Do you love to keep your home up-to-date with the current trends? If so, ARC Realty has you covered.
Check out the five home improvement trends for 2015.
Salon-Style Walls
Instead of displaying a few distinct pieces on a wall, the Parisian-inspired, salon-style trend features works from floor to ceiling and from one wall to the next.
The popularity of salon-style walls rests on an undeniable charm of having a bunch of smaller pieces break up an expanse of wall space.
Expert designers suggest using a common denominator for cohesiveness, such as the same mat, frame color, or subject matter.
Pro Tip: Before you hang any pieces, space them 4 to 5 inches apart, starting centered at eye level. Then, work outward, up, and then down. You could also test the design on the floor like a big jigsaw puzzle before placing it on your wall.
Note: If you are staging your home for sale, we do not recommend that you implement this new design trend into your staging process. (Check out our DIY Home Staging Tips).
Porcelain Floors
If you’re going to go with imitation wood, porcelain is undoubtedly the way to go for 2015. It’s less expensive and wears better than the real thing.
Porcelain, available in numerous colors and textures, can be found in traditional small tiles or long, linear planks. It can even be crafted to resemble traditional hardwood floors. Good places to use this material are high-traffic rooms, hallways, and areas exposed to moisture.
Open Spaces
Many homes, even those constructed throughout the ‘90s, are carved up into relatively small, discrete spaces. As families grow and change, they must either adapt to the home or the home must adapt to them.
As the kitchen has become the home’s hub, we expect to see more clients seeking creative solutions to better connect between living spaces and kitchens. In short, open floor plans are in, especially when it comes to kitchens (which are being used for gathering just as much as cooking).
Storage
Homeowners ideally want everything placed right where it’s needed, and that’s why many are willing to pare the dimensions of a second or third bedroom in order to gain a suitably-sized walk-in closet in their master bedroom.
“Super-pantries” are sure to become a popular home improvement trend for 2015 in kitchens. These pantries will have enough room to offer prep space and serve as a place to store secondary appliances.
Multiple Master Suites
Having two master bedroom suites, each with its own adjoining bathroom, makes a house work better for multiple generations. Such an arrangement allows grown children and aging parents to move in comfortably for either a brief visit or a longer stay. Furthermore, the arrangement also works well for out-of-town guests.
We expect to see more of these “suites” being added to houses throughout the year.
