ARC Realty’s Guide to Relocating

Are you thinking about or are you in the process of relocating to a new city, state or even country? Or are you making your way into the Magic City? While it can be a stressful and overwhelming process, relocating out of your city and into a new environment doesn’t have to seem impossible. ARC Realty has provided tips to make your transition go as smooth as possible in this step by step relocating guide.

Use an agent

The most important tip for a smooth and successful relocation experience is to utilize your resources. Having someone you trust by your side throughout the relocation process is an invaluable tool for transitioning. Contact the real estate agent you trust in your current city and he or she will connect you with an experienced agent in your new city. Your agent will provide an overview of the city, as well as guide you through the home-buying experience.

Stay organized

It’s easy to overlook certain aspects of the relocation process. Be sure to stay as organized as possible throughout the experience. You’ll be happy you made that extra checklist in the long run! Plan how to efficiently pack all your valuables and transport your pets, as well as keep up with a schedule and timeline. If you plan to drive to your new destination, make sure to plan for stops, hotel stays and toll roads.

Do your research

Work with your agent to map out all the specifics of your new home. What are the best and safest places to live? How are the school systems compared to others in the area? Also, consider the cost of living, such as how much a typical trip to the grocery store will cost and the average price of gas in the area. Keeping these things in mind beforehand will allow you to create an accurate budget and know what to expect of your new home.

Moving company

There are a lot of options when choosing a moving company, so it’s important to get multiple quotes and read plenty of reviews from previous customers. Prices and quality can range immensely for moving services, so be sure to get the best for what you pay. If the actual moving process goes well, then you’re already off to a great start to beginning life in your new city.

Transporting your vehicles

Along with moving your belongings, make sure you have a plan for transporting your vehicles, which is often a last-minute thought for many who are relocating. If driving a long distance isn’t on your agenda, contact a company to move your car without adding the extra miles.

Miscellaneous checklist: Don’t let these housekeeping duties sneak up on you! Be sure to get the following things out of the way upon arriving in your new city.

  • Register your vehicles and switch out your license plates (if necessary)
  • Register to vote, even if it’s not election season. You’ll be happy you did when the time comes!
  • Contact insurance companies to set up any policy changes
  • Have your mail transferred to your new address. It’s also a good idea to contact banks and credit card companies to get your residence changed in their systems
  • And of course, setup your cable and internet. You may even want to call prior to arriving in your new city to schedule your home’s setup.
