Tips for Creating a Home Office
Recently a home office was a nice feature to have in your home because only a small percentage of the work force actually works from home. Fast forward to the COVID-19 pandemic and you’ve likely been working from home at a “home office” whether you’ve really had one set up or not for months. For those that are working from home but haven’t taken the time to really set up a good home office, now is the time to change that! Here are some of our tips for creating a home office:

Location, Location, Location!
So many things are about location in real estate and that doesn’t change for something as simple as picking a place in your home to set up your office. In a perfect world, you would have a separate room with a door to help with noise and distraction, but if no room is available – no worries! Just even a single dedicated space with a surface to work on is better than nothing and a space that’s in a quieter area of the home is ideal. If it can be avoided, it’s always a good idea to separate where you work and sleep!
Comfy Chair
If the majority of your work time is spent sitting down, please do yourself a favor and invest in a quality office chair. An ergonomic chair will save your posture, back and potentially make sitting at your desk feel less like … well, sitting at a desk. There are many stylish options these days that are also ergonomically friendly too!
Get Motivated
This is your space to be efficient and inspired to work. Add small things like special office supplies, knick knacks, quotes and whatever else motivates you to work hard! It’s your own personal home office after all!
Green Thumb
There are so many advantages to having plants in the workplace. They not only bring a great aesthetic, but help with air quality, provide a calming nature, and provide something to watch grow. Because you have more control over the lighting than you would at a corporate office, you’re much more likely to feel like a green thumb. Also, you can achieve the same aesthetic with faux plants!
Lighting Matters
Ideally, you’ll be working next to a window providing a great source of natural light. However that may not be the case! Instead of an overhead light, try a desk lamp and other lamps in the room for a non-glare lighting situation.
Create a Comfy Space
You’ll likely be at your desk working from our computer most of the day, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a cozy space to brainstorm and read! This will look different depending on the amount of room you have, but consider an oversized chair with an ottoman to put your feet up, and a small coffee table to go near. This gives you a nice corner to take a break while still moving your work forward! Bonus points if you can fit a sofa into your home office!
