5 Ways to Give Back this Holiday Season
The holidays are here and while this time of year calls for a celebration, for many it’s a source of pain and sadness. If this year has taught us anything it’s that we need to check in on those around us and offer a helping hand when needed. Join us as we give back to those in need throughout our community with 5 ways to give back this holiday season.
Donate Food
Local food banks are always accepting donations of food to serve to communities in need. This year food banks have seen an increase in need due to many being out of work. Consider making a donation of canned and dry foods to feed others.
Give a Toy
There’s no better way to make a difference in a child’s holiday than by providing a few special presents on Christmas morning. Toys for Tots is a program ran by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve whose goal is to provide new, unwrapped toys during the holidays to families in need. This is a great way to get the entire family involved in the giving process by selecting gifts for others.
Write a Letter
The frontline workers are the unsung heroes of 2020. Consider writing a thank you letter and delivering it to your local hospital. This small gesture could be the encouragement they need to keep going.
Donate a Coat
The winter months can be brutally cold and dangerous if you are not prepared. It is hard to think of anyone heading out during cold days without a proper coat, especially a child, but it is the reality for many. One of the easiest ways to serve others is to go through your closet and pull out old coats to donate. Give the gift of a warm coat this holiday season!
Random Act of Kindness
While the holiday season is full of hope and excitement, there are others out there hurting this time of year. We encourage you to make a conscious effort to spread kindness each day. You can do simple acts of kindness like holding open the door for someone, letting a car go out in front of you or paying someone a compliment. These small acts of kindness can go a long way in making a difference in someone’s life!
