Valentine’s Day Blog

Happy Love Day! Here at ARC Realty we pride ourselves in being A Relationship Company. Over the years we have seen 2 marriages take place because of introductions made here at ARC Realty. We also have several more dynamic duo couples crushing the real estate game together. We recently caught up with two of our married agent teams to ask them what it’s like working together full-time in real estate. We’d like to introduce you to the Walkers and Warners!

The Walkers

How long have you been married?

Leslie: “We have been married 34 years, 35 years on Feb 26th”

How long have you been working in real estate together?

Leslie: “We have been working in Real Estate together for 11 years”

Who is the boss when you’re at work?

Leslie: “I am”
Tommy: “I am”

Who makes all of the important real estate decisions in your personal life?

Leslie: “We pretty much make our personal real estate decisions together, and then one of us end up doing completely opposite!!”

What makes you a dynamic duo in real estate?

Leslie: “Dynamic Duo, Hmmm…I think each of us bring something different to the table. We each have our strengths and weaknesses. I am not technologically advanced but thank goodness Tommy is. I could sit and analyze data all day and that probably drives Tommy crazy.”
Tommy: “We strive to make out clients happy.”

How do you separate your work from your personal life?

Leslie: “I don’t think we ever separate work from our personal life. Real Estate is such an interesting subject and people love to talk about it so conversation just goes that way. At home we are always talking about houses, clients, trends etc. It is the best job ever!”

Tell us a funny story about working with your spouse?

Leslie: “So funny story. A few years ago we were showing a home and when we pulled up there was a HUGE pile of furniture and junk at the curb. I am totally a dumpster diver so we were going through and found this really “interesting” table. It had knobs and dials and it looked like an old radio. After researching, turns out it is an electro shock therapy unit and the owner of the home was a physician who treated patients in his basement. Kind of creepy but that table has now been refinished and has a place in our home office!”

Tommy: “We had a client that we showed 65 houses. Always insisted on bringing his dogs, two big Samoyeds. I never saw any of these houses. As soon as we got out of the car ‘Tommy, do you mind walking the dogs?’ Of course not, BOB. Leslie would wave at me as I walked down the street. However, he did purchase a million dollar property.”

What advice would you give to other couples that work together?

Leslie: “Working together can be a challenge since you spend much of your off time together too. It is important to give each other space when needed. Poor Tommy, I still have trouble with that one.”

Tommy: “Love, Patience, and Communication”

Valentine's Day

How long have you been married?

“18 years”

How long have you been working in real estate together?

“18 years”

Who is the boss when you’re at work?

“We both try to be which sometimes complicates things.”

Who makes all of the important real estate decisions in your personal life?

“We have and will always make them together.”

What makes you a dynamic duo in real estate?

“We have the same work ethic. We usually work at least 10 hours a day, every day. We love our Clients, they become friends during the process, thus allowing us to better identify with them during the stressful & difficult time of buying and selling.”

How do you separate your work from your personal life?

“Sadly, we don’t. Real estate is our life.”

Tell us a funny story about working with your spouse?

“We had our own personal home up for sale about 4 years ago and got a really low offer in on it. Robert took it personal and became the typical seller instead of the real estate agent that he is. Robert’s response was to ‘not counter back’ because he was mad about the offer and offended. Vicki said, ‘but we always tell our sellers to never be offended with an offer and try and work it until we come to a point that everyone is happy with or until it can’t be worked anymore to everyone’s satisfaction.’ He bowed up and said, ‘do what you want but this is not our buyer.’ Vicki thought they were. So, Robert told her that if these people ended up buying our house, he would buy her any pair of shoes in the world that she wanted. Well, Vicki now owns a REALLY nice EXPENSIVE pair of Jimmy Choo shoes out of the process.”

What advice would you give to other couples that work together?

“Be patient with each other. Identify your roles. Cherish the opportunity to be able to work together.”
