The days are longer, the weather is finally warmer, and our calendar is jam-packed. That can only mean one thing—spring is here! Birmingham is buzzing with activity, and now is the perfect time to make plans with family and friends. To help you take advantage of this month’s incredible events, we’ve compiled a list of the city’s top festivals and fun runs in our April Event Guide to Birmingham. We hope you enjoy!
Fido Fest
What could make a day at The Summit better? Letting your furry friends tag along, of course! The 3rd annual Fido Fest will feature pet adoptions, a marketplace, food, live music, and plenty of fun activities for the whole family, including balloon twisting, face painting, and pet caricatures! All animal lovers and four-legged friends are welcome. Best of all, this event will benefit The Greater Birmingham Humane Society and Hand & Paw! Fido Fest will take place in the parking lot area near Swoozie’s and Orvis.

Alabama Asian Cultures and Food Festival
Spend the afternoon at the Alabama Asian Cultures and Food Festival! Immerse yourself in Asian culture as you enjoy the artistic talent of performers from China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Nepal, and more. Sample dishes from local restaurants and learn about the cultures of multiple Asian countries at the Cultural Heritage booths. Experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of Asia right here in Birmingham—we’re sure it will be a day to remember!

Run for a Reason Avondale 5K
Head to Avondale for the 7th annual Sozo Children Run for a Reason! This family-friendly 5K is open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, and strollers and dogs are welcome! 100% of the proceeds raised will be used to support the mission of Sozo Children in Uganda, East Africa, so you can rest easy after the race knowing that you truly had a great reason to run. Stick around afterward for doughnuts, corn hole, inflatables for the kids, and an unforgettable performance by the Sozo Children’s choir!

Mt. Laurel Spring Festival
Enjoy the afternoon outdoors at the 18th annual Mt. Laurel Spring Festival! Browse for beautiful artwork, handmade home décor pieces, pottery, jewelry, clothing, and more from over 200 arts and crafts vendors and farmers. Live music, inflatables, and food trucks will also be onsite, so bring the whole family for a fun day in the sun!

Birmingham Barons
Batter up, because baseball is back! Head to Regions Field to cheer on the Birmingham Barons as they take on the Montgomery Biscuits. The team will celebrate its first week playing at home with a break-dancing bat boy on Wednesday, $2 beers on Thirsty Thursday, fireworks on Friday, a jersey auction on Saturday, and Jackie Robinson Day on Sunday where kids get in free! Come hungry—Regions Field has added several new food items to its menu that you don’t want to miss out on!

St. Elias Lebanese Food & Cultural Festival
For over 20 years, St. Elias Maronite Church has been hosting Birmingham’s Lebanese Food & Cultural Festival! Make plans to attend for the unique opportunity to experience the traditions and culture of the Lebanese Christian faith. Traditional dance performances, church tours, and Lebanese delicacies such as Rolled Grape Leaves, Spinach Pies, and Falafel Sandwiches will be available to enjoy!

Gumbo Gala
One of the most delicious events in Birmingham is back! Visit Historic Sloss Furnaces for an afternoon of sampling gumbo from dozens of amateurs and professional chefs alike, and then vote on your favorite! As one of the largest gumbo competitions in the south, the Gumbo Gala will feature a delicious array of options from chicken and sausage to seafood and gator. To top it all off, you’ll see a Second Line Parade, playground for the kids, and local art and merchandise for sale! All proceeds from the event benefit Episcopal Place.

Magic City Art Connection
Are you an art lover? Then you don’t want to miss the 35th annual Magic City Art Connection at Linn Park! This event is ideal for the creative Birmingham dweller wanting to connect with the community while experiencing unforgettable talent. Over 200 locally and nationally known artists, musicians, dancers, kids art experiences, sculpture installations, food, special tastings, and more will be available over three days. We’re certain there will be something fun for the whole family to experience!
