Summer in the Magic City
It’s almost that time of year again. Summer in the Magic City! With all of the new things to do and places to see in our thriving city, ARC has put together your ultimate guide to Birmingham’s most popular festivals and events taking place during the summer of 2017.
Sloss Music and Arts Festival
Commonly known as Sloss Fest, the Sloss Music & Arts Festival is a two-day music and lifestyle event that will take place at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark on Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16. The festival includes 40 bands on four stages plus craft beers and cocktails, arts & craft activities and more. Pack light and prepare for the heat to enjoy one of Birmingham’s most celebrated summer events!
Slicefest
Celebrating its 6th anniversary on Saturday, June 3, Slicefest is one of Birmingham’s largest food and music block parties hosted by Slice Pizza & Brewhouse. Bands from across the region come together to perform on one stage as festival-goers enjoy their favorite songs and visit the area’s local restaurants. Proceeds from this year’s ticket sales will benefit the Suki Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping families cope with Rhett Syndrome.
Do Dah Day
To celebrate our furry family members, Do Dah Day is a pet-friendly event with live music and food to benefit animals in the Birmingham and Jefferson County areas. This year’s 39th Annual Do Dah Day will take place on Saturday, May 20 at Caldwell and Rhodes Parks beginning at 11 a.m. Bring the entire family (four-legged and two) to enjoy a day of fun and festivities at one of the city’s longest-running events!
Steel City Jazz Festival
For all of the Birmingham jazz lovers, the Steel City Jazz Festival will hold its annual music festival on June 2 and 3 at Linn Park. Presented by Empowerment, INC., the event will include non-stop music from the jazz era with plenty of entertainment, food and fun. A portion of every ticket sale will benefit the Ronald McDonald Charities of Alabama, an organization that cares for families whose children are receiving serious medical treatments.
Birmingham Artwalk
Later this summer, make plans to enjoy the 16th Annual Birmingham Artwalk on September 8 and 9 in downtown Birmingham. The Artwalk is an arts festival that transforms Birmingham’s loft neighborhood into an arts district, featuring the work of more than 100 visual artists, live musicians, street performers, food and drink vendors and children’s activities. Bring the entire family out for two days of fun at this lively and unique community event.
Secret Stages
Celebrating its 7th year, Secret Stages is a two-day music discovery festival that features more than 60 bands performing on the stages of Birmingham’s downtown Loft District. The venues are filled with up-and-coming or buzz-worthy acts drawn from across the nation. This year’s festival will take place on August 4 and 5, so don’t miss out on your chance to hear some of music’s best kept secrets that may not be secrets for long!
The Market at Pepper Place
If you’re looking for something to do on any Saturday during the summer, The Market at Pepper Place is a great activity for the entire family! The outdoor market is open beginning April 8 from 7 a.m. until noon every Saturday through December 9 (rain or shine!).
